WCNY Promotional

"BLUEGRASS RAMBLE" TO RECORD A 35TH ANNIVERSARY RADIO BARNDANCE ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 5TH

(click above for more info)

The three-hour show will be taped in the studios of Classic FM, 506 Old Liverpool Road, Liverpool NY from 2 to 5 pm before a studio audience.

No tickets or reservations are needed; fans of all ages of bluegrass and oldtime country music are invited to attend free of charge.

The show will be broadcast on Sunday, Jan. 20th from 9 pm to midnight EST over WCNY-FM Syracuse (91.3), WUNY-FM Utica (89.5) and WJNY-FM Watertown (90.9), and on the net at www.wcny.org

Blue Lightning was the afternoon’s surprise: a quartet of 15- to 19-year-olds, all solid players but scarily good at harmonies. Banjoist Nick Piccininni and mandolinist Bobby Delnero’s tandem heeeee-hees! in “Cotton-Eyed Joe” came from someplace deep, like the 19th-century Ozarks, while in Jimmy Martin’s “Tennessee” guitarist Justin Winters helped anchor a triple attack. Judging from the Utica/Rome-area quintet’s fluency with the old standards, and their already-serious instrumental chops, they don’t have to be told that bluegrass is alive and kicking.   Nathan Turk - Syracuse New Times
